For Example...
If you are Primary...
you may think this way.
You probably like succinct answers, questions, and clear, "bottom-line" answers. Maybe details seem evasive.. Detail may bore you; or, worse, extensive detail may seem literal. or controlling. Nevertheless, you may have seen others react oddly to you... Somehow you may inadvertently have given the wrong impression.. A cold, abrupt, or aloof manner often accompanies the Primary world view. Unfortunately, your true emotional and empathetic nature may hide; therefore, you protect your vulnerability but you do not allow others access to these feelings. You devote your energy to a mission; But others often misinterpret your concentration as disinterest.
If you are Conditional...
you may support what you say something like this paragraph.
Because you probably trouble-shoot really well, others may have said that you appear indecisive or that you hedge and will not give a straightforward answer. Although you probably hear what they say, you may have difficulty believing that you have caused such a misperception. Although what others say may be inaccurate, you know how well you support your views and may trust yourself enough so that their opinions wont hurt you.
If you are Process...
the writing in this paragraph may be closer to duplicating your thinking.
Writing and speaking work best when duplicating thought. To duplicate thought, try to listen to spoken or written word clues to help you. People tend to use the same thought patterns repeatedly. Therefore, communicating well means matching thoughts to wording. You like to know the principles and guidelines for doing a job well. Having a "laid-back" nature and liking to be funny may cause destruction, not charm or calm. Others can misunderstand your "guideline-governed" decisions, thinking instead that you like to work with machines and systems but not people. Knowing the whole system first before doing a job gives you the confidence to guarantee quality.
If you are Background...
the writing in this paragraph may best illustrate the talents of your style.
Liking punctuality and thoroughness in yourself and others, you also want communication from others without omission of any of the information. In every case, you feel secure with complete information. A Short summary may imply control by the author. Without thorough and complete detail, substance of the greatest importance may fall through the cracks. You might see peers as oblivious to important information. You probably feel a need during most interaction with colleagues, for more complete information of time, place, or category. You can count on yourself, but not necessarily others, to complete a task with total concentration, with full attention to detail and to every element of a successful job.
The Point of the Styles and Context Patterns
See? Each predominate strength "sees" information differently.
Certainly, no one style is best, or worst. We have to use all four patterns because English consists of all four. We all use these four patterns of context, but we use them differently, with different emphasis and different purpose. The choices we make reveal how we see things, and what we consider to be important information.
